About Us: Scuba - our hobby gone wild!
Alberta Adventure Divers really did start out with two divers wanting access to air fills in the middle of the bald prairies, back in 1988. Starting with an air compressor in our garage this 'hobby' has grown into a full service PADI 5 Star dive center owned by Connie and David Faas. We thank our loyal dive buddies and customers for encouraging us on this path.
Our goal is to train safe, skilled, knowledgeable divers who have an environmental awareness and a passion for diving. "Full service" means more than classes. You’ll receive our random e-newsletters. Read about what’s happening in the local dive area, as well as dive travel opportunities, and opportunities for continuing diver education. We hope you’ll stay active in diving, that you’ll continue to learn about the sport and about different diving environments and activities. Follow our activities on Facebook as well. |

Dan Ermel - Shopkeeper & Avid DiverYou are sure to meet Dan when you visit the dive store. Dan has been our dive buddy for years. In Feb of 2016 he heard we were looking for a handy-man to run the dive store, fill cylinders, and organize dive events and dive nights. Dan put up his hand and said ‘pick me’. We did, and haven’t looked back. Say hi to Dan at the store, or at the lake!
Dan's Memorable dive trip: Every dive trip is memorable in some way. The most unusual one was at Wolf Island, Mazatlan Mexico. Charlene and I had about 75 dives under our belts, so we were getting comfortable with diving strange places. We signed up for two dives which surprised the locals, as one dive is the norm there. Red flag #1. Annette asked if they had bottled water for us. No. Red flag #2. She ran back and grabbed some. We got into a glorified canoe, just the three of us, Charlene, me and our guide, Arturo, and an old outboard motor! Red flag #3. Arturo was pushing 60 and wore a full 5 mm suit with hood and gloves. Red flag #4. He said it will be a relatively shallow dive because there is nothing to see below 20 feet and it is too murky. Red flag #5. He told us to jump in and he would anchor the boat and catch up. Red flag #6. Once he caught up, we had to quit looking at things because we had to swim fast to keep up to him! We were sweating when we got back to the boat. We saw a conch shell and lots of small fish. Then he informed us he was too cold to do the second dive so he told us where to go and he would follow our bubbles! We should surface within the hour. Red flag, too late, we're in the water now. But lots of firsts! Our first dive totally on our own in the ocean! First over-60-minute dive! First experience with surge and rocks! First (and only to date) bad dive. First (and last) dive in Mazatlan. First big conch shell in the wild. First time outlasting the dive guide! Dive Advice: Never dive beyond your limits. Keep expanding your training to stretch those limits! |
